Google is proposing changes to its Play Store policies in India for real-money gaming (RMG) apps, prompted by an antitrust probe by the CCI following a complaint from Winzo. Google plans to allow all RMG apps on the Play Store, provided they meet legal standards and obtain certification from reputable third-party bodies. These revisions include updated advertising policies to permit ads for ‘games of skill’ certified by third parties. Winzo criticized Google’s previous policies for unfairly favoring DFS and Rummy apps. India’s gaming market is expected to reach $9.2 Bn by FY29.
