India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), successfully launched CMS-03, marking a significant milestone for the country’s communication satellite capabilities. Launched on November 2, 2025, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, CMS-03, also known as GSAT-7R, is India’s heaviest communication satellite to date, weighing approximately 4,410 kilograms. The satellite was deployed using the LVM3-M5 rocket, colloquially referred to as the “Bahubali,” illustrating ISRO’s enhanced heavy-lift launch capabilities.

CMS-03 is a multi-band military communications satellite designed primarily to strengthen and expand the Indian Navy’s communication network. It operates across C, extended C, and Ku bands, providing high-capacity broadband links for voice, data, and video transmissions. This enhanced connectivity will support the Navy’s need for reliable real-time communication over a wide maritime area, including the Indian Ocean region and beyond.
