The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has signed a five-year agreement with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) to work together on strengthening Aadhaar’s security, reliability, and overall performance. The two organisations will focus on using data-driven research and innovation to make the Aadhaar system more robust and citizen-friendly.

The collaboration will cover important areas like detecting fraud and unusual activity, improving biometric liveness detection tools, and refining biometric matching algorithms. It will also involve identifying high-risk enrolment and update processes, along with other research areas the two sides agree on.

The agreement was signed by Ms. Tanusree Deb Barma, Deputy Director General (Technology Centre) at UIDAI, and Prof. B. S. Daya Sagar, head of ISI’s Bengaluru Centre. Sh. Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, and Ms. Puja Singh Mandol, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), were present at the signing.

Speaking about the partnership, UIDAI CEO Sh. Bhuvnesh Kumar said, “Our collaboration with ISI is a step towards building advanced, secure, and citizen-centric innovation.” Ms. Mandol added that the tie-up combines deep expertise in statistics, technology, and data-driven innovation.

The Indian Statistical Institute, under MoSPI, is one of India’s most respected research institutions, known for its work in statistics, mathematics, computer science, and data science, and for decades of impactful research.
