Zoho’s founder Sridhar Vembu has announced a major update for Arattai, the homegrown messaging app, detailing a decisive shift towards mandatory, system-wide end-to-end encryption. In a post on X dated November 15, Vembu revealed that Arattai will adopt “option 2,” forcing all users to communicate exclusively via encrypted channels. This security upgrade is launching first for one-on-one chats and will extend to group conversations within days, pending successful internal testing.
Currently, about 6,000 Zoho employees are trialing the new version, which is undergoing intensive real-world testing before the public rollout. Vembu described the core encryption update as a fundamental redesign and positioned privacy as “non-negotiable” for Arattai’s future. The intent, he emphasized, is to make robust privacy controls central to the app’s brand identity, matching global standards for secure communications.
Addressing recent shifts in app store rankings where Arattai dropped from the top 100 Vembu assured users that such fluctuations are natural given ongoing development. He underlined Zoho’s long-term commitment to continuous product improvement, with regular feature updates planned regardless of market cycles.
