In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of leveraging technology to improve citizens’ lives, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) successfully launched the ‘FASTag Annual Pass’ on August 15th, 2025, across approximately 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways nationwide. This initiative aims to streamline travel and enhance convenience for highway users.

The Annual Pass has seen remarkable adoption. By 7 PM on its initial day, around 140,000 users had purchased and activated the pass, generating roughly 139,000 transactions at toll plazas. The Rajmargyatra App is experiencing peak usage, with 20,000 to 25,000 concurrent users at any given moment. Users are also receiving SMS notifications confirming zero toll deductions. To ensure a trouble-free experience, NHAI has deployed officials and nodal officers at each toll plaza.

Furthermore, NHAI is actively addressing user inquiries through multiple channels. The 1033 National Highway Helpline has been bolstered with over 100 additional executives to resolve grievances effectively. The FASTag Annual Pass offers an economical and uninterrupted travel solution, replacing frequent recharges with a one-time payment of Rs. 3,000 for a year-long validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. This pass is valid for all non-commercial vehicles equipped with a functional FASTag and becomes active within two hours of payment via the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website. FASTag, with a penetration rate nearing 98 percent and a user base exceeding 80 million, has already transformed electronic toll collection in India. The introduction of the Annual Pass is expected to further elevate the user experience, making journeys on national highways and expressways more efficient and cost-effective.
