Ola Electric is moving beyond electric vehicles, entering the energy storage market with its ‘Shakti’ battery energy storage system (BESS). Founder Bhavish Aggarwal highlighted grid energy storage as a primary application for their gigafactory, predicting that battery product cell consumption will soon surpass automotive product consumption. The residential BESS integrates the company’s 4680 Bharat cells, produced at the Tamil Nadu Gigafactory, marking Ola’s first non-vehicle product. Reservations are open, with deliveries scheduled for 2026.

Three Shakti models will be available, offering storage capacities of 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh (dual 1.5 kWh units), 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh. Introductory prices for the first 10,000 units are Rs 29,999, Rs 55,999, Rs 1,19,999, and Rs 1,59,999, respectively. Launch is slated for Makar Sankranti, January 14, 2026. The portable system can power entire homes, including multiple air conditioners, and even drones. An AI-powered mobile app will provide insights into household appliance energy consumption.

Aggarwal also outlined plans to establish an energy storage network to store renewable energy for later use, addressing green energy supply-demand gaps. Ola’s service center network will manage battery maintenance. He emphasized that grid energy storage and battery storage systems are the gigafactory’s most significant applications, contrary to assumptions about automotive cell production. Following the announcement, Ola Electric shares rose 5% to Rs 55.38 on the NSE, after the company cited approximately Rs 400 crore in incentives under the PLI scheme for the automobile and auto components sector.
