Meta announced Tuesday a suite of localized AI features for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India, introducing UPI Lite payments, full Hindi language support, and a new AI voice modeled after Bollywood Actress Deepika Padukone.
The updates, which will roll out “soon” according to Meta, represent the company’s most significant push to adapt its wearable technology for the Indian market since launching the glasses at ₹29,900 earlier this year.
Hands-Free Payments and Voice Integration
The centerpiece feature allows users to make UPI Lite payments under ₹1,000 by simply looking at a QR code and saying “Hey Meta, scan and pay”. Transactions will be processed through WhatsApp-linked bank accounts without requiring a smartphone or PIN authentication.
Cultural Localization Features
Meta has added comprehensive Hindi language support powered by Indian AI firm Sarvam, allowing users to perform all functions – from asking questions to controlling media – entirely in Hindi. The feature addresses Meta’s goal of making advanced wearable technology accessible to users less comfortable with English.
For the festive season, Meta introduced a limited-time Diwali photo restyling tool. Users can capture images and say “Hey Meta, restyle this” to add effects like fireworks, lights, and rangoli patterns. The enhanced photos appear in the Meta AI app for sharing.
Meta has not provided specific rollout dates but advised users to keep their glasses and Meta AI app updated to access the new features.
