The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is backing M/s Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd. to advance an IoT-enabled, AI-driven point-of-care blood testing device. This initiative aims to provide affordable and accessible healthcare solutions.

Founded by IIT Guwahati alumni, Mr. Sahil Jagnani and Mr. Ankit Choudhury, Primary Healthtech emerged from a collaborative effort involving doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, professors, and students. Their mission: to create affordable diagnostic tools for underserved populations. With initial support from BIRAC, they developed Mobilab – a portable, battery-operated clinical chemistry analyzer, enhanced with IoT and AI/ML capabilities, capable of conducting over 25 tests related to kidney function, liver health, heart condition, vitamin levels, and cancer markers.

The company possesses a patent for “A transmittance-based system/kit for point-of-care quantification,” originally from IIT Guwahati, and has submitted six additional patent applications covering integrated mixers, assay development, centrifuges, and proprietary optical systems. Mobilab has been tested on 10,000 patients and has recently secured a CDSCO manufacturing license.

Future development will focus on upgrading the existing M1 prototype to simultaneously perform five tests, thereby shortening patient waiting times, and establishing commercial-scale manufacturing. The next-generation Mobilab will offer tests for Hemoglobin, Creatinine, Bilirubin, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Uric Acid, Glucose, and GGT, among others.

Sh. Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, emphasized the importance of ensuring quality healthcare in rural and remote areas, highlighting that this project showcases India’s ability to develop indigenous, AI-powered diagnostic solutions for primary healthcare.

Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd. expressed appreciation for TDB’s support, stating that it will expedite their transition from laboratory innovation to widespread deployment. They envision Mobilab as a means to bridge the healthcare divide for rural and underserved communities, making advanced diagnostics available at the point of care throughout India.

This partnership reinforces TDB’s dedication to promoting indigenous healthcare innovations in alignment with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, thereby enhancing India’s standing in the global market for affordable medical technologies.
