Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence company, has launched a web-based version of its agentic coding assistant, Claude Code, making it accessible beyond the command line and available on both browser and iOS platforms. This development is designed to democratize access: developers can now initiate coding tasks, connect GitHub repositories, and monitor project progress all from a user-friendly browser interface.
Unlike traditional AI assistants tethered to desktop setups, Claude Code operates entirely in Anthropic’s secure cloud environment. Users delegate tasks to Claude, which then runs code analysis, implements features, or fixes bugs in parallel isolated sandboxes. Progress can be tracked in real time, and the platform automatically generates pull requests and concise change summaries to simplify deployment and code review. Only authorized credentials allow access to specific repositories, and Anthropic’s custom Git proxy adds robust security to each operation.
Since expanding access in May 2025, Anthropic reports that Claude Code’s user base has multiplied tenfold, with over $500 million in annualized revenue attributed to the tool. Internal engineering teams reportedly use Claude Code for most of their own development, claiming productivity gains of up to 67% though these claims are based on company figures and have yet to be independently verified.
With its browser-first approach, Anthropic positions Claude Code as a serious competitor to Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot and OpenAI’s Codex, pushing the boundaries of what AI developer agents can achieve. The platform currently supports only GitHub-hosted repositories, but future enhancements are planned for more advanced CLI intelligence and expanded access controls.
