YouTube has launched a new “Remind Me a Break” feature, targeting mounting concerns over excessive screen time and digital well-being. Announced in late October, the function is now live for mobile users worldwide, including a dedicated Shorts Timer to limit endless vertical scrolling.

Feature Details and Availability
“Remind Me a Break” allows users to configure timed reminders during extended viewing sessions. Timer options range from 15 to 180 minutes, appearing as prompts to pause and disconnect. The Shorts Timer, meanwhile, is specifically designed for YouTube Shorts once users reach their daily preset limit, a pop-up encourages taking a break from “doomscrolling.” For users aged 13–17, the reminder is enabled by default; adults can activate and customize it via YouTube’s settings.

Digital Health at the Forefront
This feature is part of YouTube’s ongoing response to global calls for improved digital wellness tools in social media. By introducing gentle, configurable friction in the viewer experience, the company aims to foster healthier content consumption echoing similar screen time initiatives from rivals like Instagram and TikTok.
