Zomato, one of India’s leading food delivery platforms, has announced the launch of ‘Healthy Mode’, a feature designed to empower users to make more informed nutritional choices while ordering online food. The rollout, initially available in Gurgaon, will soon extend to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other major metros as part of Zomato’s broader ambition to promote “better food for more people”
CEO Deepinder Goyal on X(formerly Twitter)acknowledged that the platform need meaningfully guide users toward healthier options. While the app offered salads or smoothie bowls, Goyal admitted these didn’t necessarily guarantee sound nutrition, nor did the platform make it easy to identify genuinely nourishing meals
The centerpiece of Healthy Mode is a transparent scoring system that rates every dish with a ‘Healthy Score’ ranging from Low to Super. Unlike previous “healthy” tags that relied largely on calorie counts or vague descriptions, this scoring methodology weighs in meaningful nutritional factors: protein content, complex carbohydrates, fibre, and micronutrients. The data is derived using a blend of artificial intelligence and input from restaurant partners, with Zomato emphasizing that the system is structured to be objective and user-friendly.
With this move, Zomato raises the bar for what constitutes ‘healthy’ eating on food delivery platforms
