In a bold move to expand its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets, OpenAI is making its paid ChatGPT Go plan free for users in India for one year, starting November 4, 2025.
The company announced the initiative on Tuesday, calling it a limited-time promotional offer, though it did not specify how long the window to claim it would remain open. Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will also be eligible for the complimentary 12-month access.
Launched in India in August 2025, ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s most affordable paid tier, priced at Rs 399 per month (under $5). It offers 10x higher usage limits compared to the free version including response generation, image creation, and file uploads along with enhanced memory for more personalized conversations.
The move underscores OpenAI’s deepening focus on India, its second-largest market after the U.S., as the company seeks to grow its user base and engagement levels. India, with over 700 million smartphone users and more than a billion internet subscribers, has rapidly emerged as a global AI adoption hotspot.
To strengthen its presence, OpenAI opened a New Delhi office in August and is currently building a local team to drive regional operations.
