Social Media Platform X Faces Global Outage, Resolved Within an Hour

Introduction Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced a global outage on March 10, 2025, affecting thousands of users worldwide, including those in India. Many users were unable to access posts and encountered an error message stating, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”

Outage Details

  • According to DownDetector, a website that tracks online service disruptions, more than 2,500 users reported issues with X at 3:26 PM IST.
  • By 4:00 PM IST, the number of complaints had significantly reduced to less than 100, indicating that the issue was resolved within an hour.
  • Despite the widespread impact, X did not provide any official update or explanation regarding the cause of the outage.

Recurring Issues on X This is not the first time that X has experienced such a global outage. In 2023, the platform suffered a similar disruption, after which Elon Musk announced that the company had imposed temporary reading limits:

  • Verified accounts: Limited to reading 6,000 posts per day.
  • Unverified accounts: Restricted to 600 posts per day.
  • New unverified accounts: Capped at 300 posts per day.

Musk stated that these measures were put in place to combat data scraping and system manipulation. However, it remains unclear whether the latest outage was caused by similar issues or an unrelated technical failure.

Other Recent Global Outages X is not the only platform that has faced technical difficulties in recent months. Several major online services have experienced disruptions:

  • Slack (February 2025): Workplace communication platform Slack suffered a global outage, affecting business operations worldwide.
  • ChatGPT (January 2025): OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT was down for three hours, disrupting AI-based services.
  • Meta Platforms (December 2024): WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram faced a major outage in India, affecting millions of users.

Meta has frequently experienced outages over the past year, raising concerns about the reliability of critical digital communication platforms.

While the latest outage on X was resolved quickly, it highlights the increasing vulnerability of online platforms to technical failures. With businesses, media, and individuals heavily relying on these services, frequent disruptions underscore the need for stronger infrastructure, better transparency, and more robust crisis communication from tech companies.

As digital dependency grows, companies must prioritize service reliability to maintain user trust and minimize disruptions in an increasingly connected world.
