Flipkart has launched a new premium membership called Flipkart Black, aimed at taking on Amazon Prime in India’s e-commerce space. The membership comes with several benefits like priority customer support, exclusive discounts, and early access to sales events.

The subscription costs ₹1,499 per year, but as an introductory offer, Flipkart is selling it at ₹990 annually. This makes it more premium than Flipkart’s current plans like the VIP plan (₹799) and the free loyalty program Flipkart Plus.

One of the biggest highlights of Flipkart Black is that it includes a one-year YouTube Premium subscription (worth ₹1,490). With this, users get ad-free video streaming, background play, and the ability to download videos for offline viewing. The subscription, however, is valid for only one YouTube account.

Members will also earn rewards through SuperCoins. They get 5% cashback (up to ₹100) on every Flipkart and Flipkart Minutes order, and can collect up to 800 SuperCoins per month. These coins can be used for discounts or cashback. There’s also a 5% discount on SuperCoin transactions (up to ₹1,000). Flipkart Black members further get access to special deals on premium electronics and 24/7 customer support.

The plan also offers travel perks through Cleartrip, such as flight cancellations or rescheduling for just ₹1. However, Flipkart has made it clear that the membership fee is non-refundable and non-cancellable once purchased.

This new membership is a direct competitor to Amazon Prime, which also costs ₹1,499 per year and includes Prime Video as a major attraction. Since Amazon recently added ads on Prime Video, Flipkart is trying to position YouTube Premium’s ad-free streaming experience as a better alternative.
