India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed 22.72 billion transactions worth ₹28.92 lakh crore in June 2026, maintaining monthly transaction volumes above the 22 billion mark. While the total number of transactions dipped slightly from May, daily transaction activity reached a higher level during the month.
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recorded 22.72 billion transactions with a total value of ₹28.92 lakh crore in June 2026, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The latest figures show that the country’s real-time digital payments network continued to witness strong usage.
During the month, UPI processed an average of around 757 million transactions every day, while the average daily transaction value stood at approximately ₹96,405 crore.
The June figures come after UPI crossed the 23-billion monthly transaction milestone for the first time in May, when it processed 23.20 billion transactions worth ₹29.90 lakh crore.
Compared with May, transaction volume declined by 2.1% and transaction value fell by 3.3%. However, the month-on-month comparison was influenced by the shorter calendar month. June had 30 days, while May had 31.
On a daily basis, transaction activity continued to grow. The average daily transaction count increased to 757 million in June from 748 million in May. At the same daily run rate, June would have recorded around 23.47 billion transactions in a 31-day month, surpassing May’s record of 23.20 billion transactions.
Year-on-year, UPI continued to register healthy growth. Transaction volume increased by 23%, while the total value of transactions rose by 20%, reflecting the continued expansion of India’s digital payments ecosystem.
Earlier this year, UPI processed 22.35 billion transactions worth ₹29.03 lakh crore in April before reaching a record 23.20 billion transactions valued at ₹29.90 lakh crore in May.
NPCI has also published the app-wise market share data for May. PhonePe retained the top spot with a 46.26% share of transaction volume and 49.06% of transaction value. Google Pay remained the second-largest UPI app, accounting for 32.75% of transaction volume and 33.54% of transaction value. Paytm continued to rank third with a 7.91% share by transaction volume and 6.66% by transaction value.
The app-wise market share data for June is yet to be released by NPCI.
