Mumbai, August 2025
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced a new joint venture with Meta focused on deploying open-source artificial intelligence (AI) models for India. The announcement was made during the company’s 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
“Today, I am pleased to unveil a new, India-focused AI joint venture with our close partner, Meta. Together, we want to pair the power of open-source AI with Reliance’s deep domain knowledge across industries,” Ambani said.
Open-Source AI for Every Business
The joint venture will leverage Meta’s open-source Llama AI models and combine them with Reliance’s scale and execution capabilities. The aim is to provide sovereign, enterprise-ready AI solutions tailored to Indian needs, spanning industries such as Energy, Retail, Telecom, Media, and Manufacturing.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the potential of the partnership to democratize AI adoption across India.
“Meta and Reliance are going to deliver our open-source AI models to Indian businesses to help them fuel their work. With Llama, we have seen how AI can amplify human potential, boosting productivity, inspiring creativity, and accelerating innovation. With Reliance’s reach and scale, we can bring this to every corner of India,” Zuckerberg said.
Scalable AI for Startups and Enterprises
Zuckerberg emphasized that Llama’s open-source foundation allows flexible deployment whether in the cloud, on premises, or through dedicated infrastructure. This ensures scalability for small startups in remote towns as well as large enterprises in urban centres, making AI accessible across India’s diverse business landscape.
The joint venture reflects a shared vision by Reliance and Meta to unlock the potential of AI for India, combining global technology leadership with local execution strength.
