OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Pulse, its latest feature aimed at reimagining the user relationship with artificial intelligence. Moving away from the traditional query-response model, Pulse acts as a proactive daily assistant for users. It generates personalized briefings each morning by analyzing chat history, user feedback, and optionally, data from connected applications such as Gmail and Google Calendar. These briefings are delivered as visual cards, covering topics like travel updates, meeting preparations, sports news, and health tips, depending on user preferences and prior interactions
Redefining the AI Paradigm
With Pulse, OpenAI is steering ChatGPT from a reactive question-answer tool to a system that anticipates user needs. The feature was developed after feedback from college students, who noted its value increased when they specified the type of content they wanted. Users can curate their daily briefings, requesting a specific focus, such as a weekly roundup or topical news for example, sports events. The system performs asynchronous research overnight, ensuring that users start each day with up-to-date, relevant information.
Integrations, Privacy, and User Control
Pulse integrates with Gmail and Google Calendar through ChatGPT’s Connections feature, offering contextual recommendations such as birthday reminders, meeting agendas, and travel tips. All integrations are strictly optional, and users can disconnect at any time. OpenAI claims all content shown in Pulse goes through rigorous safety checks, and users can easily customize or erase their feedback history. User data and privacy remain central, with all connections and data sharing managed through explicit user consent.
Competition Heats Up in the AI Assistant Market
The launch of Pulse occurs as the AI assistant sector experiences rapid growth. In 2024, the global AI assistant market was valued at $2.44 billion and is projected to reach $46.5 billion by 2032 a compounded annual growth rate of 44.63%. Leading players in this domain include Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, and Oracle. Other tech majors are following suit, with Google and Microsoft actively developing similarly proactive features for their digital assistants.
Rollout and Future Roadmap
Currently, ChatGPT Pulse is exclusive to Pro plan subscribers on mobile, priced at $200 per month. OpenAI plans to gradually expand Pulse’s availability to Plus subscribers and eventually all ChatGPT users, although this depends on addressing significant computational challenges. With Pulse as a preview feature, some users might initially receive updates that miss the mark, but OpenAI expects real-world use and feedback to steadily improve the system’s accuracy and personalization.
