Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha that fake news and AI-generated deepfakes pose a threat to India’s democracy, demanding firmer rules and swift takedowns. Citing new provisions, Parliamentary recommendations and Digital India’s gains, he said the Government aims to balance free speech with safeguarding institutions and rebuilding public trust.
