India has become the first country to commercially produce bio-bitumen, a petroleum-free road material made from agricultural waste, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced in New Delhi. Developed by CSIR-CRRI and the Indian Institute of Petroleum, it can be blended up to 15%, potentially cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 70% and saving Rs 4,500 crore in foreign exchange annually.
