India’s IT industry is under renewed scrutiny after allegations of workplace misconduct surfaced against Infosys and Tech Mahindra, following the widening harassment and intimidation probe at Tata Consultancy Services’ Nashik office.
The TCS case remains at the center of the controversy, with nine FIRs filed based on complaints from eight female employees and one male staff member alleging sexual harassment and religious coercion between 2022 and 2026. Police have arrested seven suspects, including senior officials and an HR representative, while another remains absconding. TCS suspended operations at its Nashik BPO unit, shifting staff to remote work as authorities expanded the investigation. Officials said there is no evidence so far of extremist or foreign involvement.
In the aftermath, similar allegations emerged against Infosys and Tech Mahindra. At Infosys, social media posts accused employees at its Pune Business Process Management facility of inappropriate behaviour toward women. Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane noted the matter publicly. Infosys issued a statement reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy toward harassment and discrimination, adding that every complaint is investigated by an independent committee.
Tech Mahindra faced separate claims of religious bias at its Goregaon campus in Mumbai after an anonymous message shared online alleged unfair practices and partiality in workplace policies. A photo purportedly showing a “Footwear Free Zone” linked to Ramadan prayer arrangements circulated widely, though the company said the image was not from its offices and that an internal review found the claims unfounded.
Industry observers say the escalating allegations across major IT firms mark a critical moment for workplace accountability. As companies scramble to reassure employees and regulators, the series of complaints has intensified focus on India’s corporate grievance mechanisms and the broader culture underpinning its trillion-dollar technology sector.
