Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has publicly backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s seven‑point appeal aimed at conserving India’s foreign exchange reserves and reducing import dependence amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit in Delhi, Naidu described the measures as a “national mission” and urged governments, industries, and citizens to treat them as a collective economic responsibility rather than a one‑person initiative.
Modi’s appeal, framed around the slogan “Nation First, Duty Above Comfort,” calls for citizens to postpone discretionary gold purchases, avoid foreign travel for at least a year, and cut fuel consumption by using public transport, carpooling, and reviving work‑from‑home practices where feasible. He has also urged people to reduce edible‑oil consumption, shift away from chemical fertilisers towards natural farming, and prefer Swadeshi products over imported alternatives. The broader objective is to lower pressure on India’s external‑account balance at a time when global fuel prices remain elevated due to the West Asia crisis.
Naidu reiterated several of these points at the summit, emphasising that the current geopolitical situation is a reminder for India to focus on self‑reliance, energy conservation, and resource efficiency. He highlighted rising pressures on LPG, petrol, and diesel prices, noting that even countries not directly involved in the conflict are feeling the economic ripple effects. By aligning Andhra Pradesh’s stance with Modi’s appeal, Naidu is signalling support for the Centre’s broader push to insulate India from global commodity shocks through behavioural and policy‑driven adjustments.
