Apple’s developer site lists the release as a standalone Xcode update, while later Xcode 27 beta notes confirm that Gemini is available in the coding assistant and that the new agent tooling is part of Apple’s broader coding-intelligence push.developer.
For developers, the practical change is that Gemini can now be selected as a built-in coding assistant within Xcode rather than being wired in through workarounds. Apple’s release notes indicate the IDE is moving toward a more native agent workflow, with Apple also extending Xcode’s support for agent protocols and related tools in its next major version.
