By simply scanning the barcodes or QR codes present on these tangible assets, individuals can generate and securely store their digital versions directly within the Wallet app. This capability streamlines user access and reduces reliance on physical cards, marking a crucial step toward a more integrated digital wallet experience.
Operationally, the “Create a Pass” tool extends Wallet’s utility to numerous services and venues whose proprietary applications do not inherently offer direct Apple Wallet integration. Gurman’s reporting highlights that the system will leverage Apple Intelligence, the company’s advanced AI, to intelligently identify and categorize the type of pass being scanned. This mechanism, similar to how Google Wallet handles its own custom pass creation, ensures accurate and effective digital representation across a diverse range of physical passes.
The existence of this crucial capability first came to public attention in April, thanks to developer Nicolás Alvarez, who unearthed references within Apple’s backend code. MacRumors independently confirmed these findings, solidifying the reports. Users will reportedly enjoy dual functionality: converting existing physical passes into digital formats and crafting entirely new custom passes from scratch. This includes robust personalization options, allowing individuals to tailor the visual appearance of each newly created digital pass to their specific preferences.
This “Create a Pass” innovation is among several new capabilities slated for its official debut alongside Apple’s comprehensive preview of iOS 27. The unveiling is expected at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled from June 8 through 12 at the iconic Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
