Huawei is returning to India’s consumer electronics market after nearly six years, confirming a new tablet launch in partnership with Flipkart. A teaser on the e-commerce platform revealed the company’s plan to re-enter the market with a device described as a “Handy All-Rounder,” available exclusively through Flipkart.
While Huawei has not disclosed the model name, the teaser artwork closely resembles the Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2025), which uses the same tagline in international markets. If specifications match the global version, the tablet could feature an 11.5-inch 2.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Kirin chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The device is expected to run on HarmonyOS, Huawei’s in-house operating system. Pricing and launch details for India have not yet been announced.
Huawei’s exit from India followed a combination of geopolitical and regulatory challenges. The company was placed on the US Entity List in 2019, cutting off access to key technologies, including Google Mobile Services. Tensions escalated further after the 2020 border clashes between India and China, leading to restrictions on Huawei’s participation in India’s telecom sector and 5G trials.
The decision to return with a tablet appears to be a cautious re-entry strategy. Tablets rely less on app ecosystems compared to smartphones, potentially offering Huawei a way to gauge consumer response before expanding into other product categories.
However, the market Huawei returns to is markedly more competitive. During the company’s absence, brands like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo, and OnePlus have strengthened their presence, dominating sales across price segments. Huawei will need a strong value proposition to regain relevance in a space it once actively competed in.
For now, the Flipkart teaser only promises that more details will be announced soon.
