Hassan Allam Holding said its subsidiary Hassan Allam Construction, in a joint venture with Reliance-backed Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd. (SWREL), has been awarded the construction of the $560 million West Minya Solar Plant in Egypt. The project is being developed by Hassan Allam Utilities’ Energy Platform.
According to the company’s post, the project will be developed in partnership with EBRD, Meridiam and Infinity Power Holding. It will combine 1,000 MWac of solar photovoltaic capacity with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), making it one of the largest solar-plus-storage projects in the region.
The scope of work for Hassan Allam Construction covers full engineering, procurement and construction, including grid connections and supporting systems. For SWREL, the award strengthens its position in large-scale international renewable energy projects and marks what the company has described elsewhere as its largest international order to date.
SWREL is a solar engineering, procurement and construction company, or EPC player. That means it designs, procures equipment for and builds renewable energy projects, often taking responsibility for the full execution of utility-scale solar plants.
The West Minya project also fits Egypt’s long-term energy strategy. Hassan Allam said the country aims to raise the share of renewables in its energy mix to 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040, and the project supports that transition by adding both generation capacity and battery storage.
The announcement also highlights the role of foreign investment in Egypt’s clean energy buildout. Hassan Allam said more than half of Hassan Allam Utilities’ portfolio is now represented by foreign investors, reflecting growing confidence in the country’s energy program.
For the wider market, the deal underlines how solar projects are increasingly being paired with storage to improve reliability and grid flexibility. It also shows that Indian renewable energy companies such as SWREL are becoming more active in overseas markets where large integrated projects are being awarded.
