Bluesky has launched Attie, an AI-powered application that enables users to create personalized social media feeds using natural language commands. Announced at the ATmosphereConf in Vancouver, the tool was introduced by chief innovation officer Jay Graber and CTO Paul Frazee as the company’s first standalone product outside its main app. Attie is powered by Anthropic’s Claude model and marks the first major release since Graber stepped down as CEO in March to focus on product innovation.
Interim CEO Toni Schneider described the project as a milestone for Bluesky’s development. “It’s a new product it’s not a part of the Bluesky app,” he said. “Attie represents our first standalone application built by Jay Graber’s new innovation team.”
Attie allows users to generate customized feeds by typing conversational prompts, eliminating the need for programming expertise. For example, users can request feeds showcasing electronic music creators or posts about AI infrastructure. Because it is built on Bluesky’s open-source AT Protocol, Attie can access data across multiple applications in the same network. Feeds created in Attie will later be viewable within the main Bluesky app and other AT Protocol platforms.
Graber positioned the launch as part of a broader shift toward user-controlled AI. “Today, major platforms use AI to serve themselves, not their users,” she said. “We think AI should serve people, not platforms. An open protocol puts this power directly in users’ hands.” Schneider compared the potential of the AT ecosystem to WordPress, suggesting it could foster a similar scale of innovation and economic activity.
Attie is currently in closed beta, with early testers drawn from ATmosphereConf attendees. A waitlist has opened for additional participants. Bluesky plans to expand the tool’s functionality to support more advanced, conversational feed-building capabilities in the future.
