Google Cloud said some customers in India experienced intermittent network disruptions after a fire at a third-party data centre triggered an emergency shutdown of networking equipment. The incident affected traffic from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and nearby regions, causing elevated latency, according to the company’s status page and reporting by Reuters and other outlets.
The cloud unit said the fire led to an emergency power shutdown at the facility, which isolated a local point of presence in Delhi and reduced network capacity across the metropolitan area. Google also said there was no workaround while restoration efforts continued.
According to the status page, the disruption involved intermittent latency spikes and possible packet loss for network traffic originating from the affected regions. Google said it was rerouting traffic to other facilities and investigating additional traffic mitigation measures to limit the impact.
Google did not say when the fire occurred, and the company did not provide further details on the condition of the facility. The incident underscores how a failure at a third-party site can affect cloud traffic across major Indian business hubs.
