Google Labs has launched Dreambeans, an experimental mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to turn a user’s digital activity into a curated set of daily stories. The app is available on Android and iOS for eligible Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with a waitlist open to other users with a personal Google account.
Dreambeans draws on Google services including Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube and Search history, but only with user permission. Google says the app uses its Personal Intelligence system to build a finite collection of stories each day rather than an endless feed.
The app’s stories are presented as personalized suggestions such as places to visit, topics to explore, things to try, upcoming trips and events users should know about, according to product lead Gozde Oznur, who spoke to TechCrunch. Google says the app is designed to deliver about 10 to 14 stories per day and is meant to be consumed quickly.
Google says the stories are private to the user, and that users can delete their data or disconnect individual services at any time. The app also uses AI-generated artwork, and can place a user’s own likeness or that of family members and pets into scenes if they allow access through Google Photos’ Face Grouping feature.
