Alibaba Group has open‑sourced T‑Head SAIL, the full software stack behind its Zhenwu AI chips, unveiled at WAIC 2026 in Shanghai. The stack covers OS, dev tools, and interfaces, aiming to reduce reliance on Nvidia’s CUDA. Introduced with the Zhenwu M890, SAIL supports chips already deployed at scale (560,000 units, 400+ customers). The move reflects China’s push for open AI ecosystems, alongside Huawei’s CANN toolkit and alliances among domestic chipmakers.
