Bharti Airtel’s data centre arm Nxtra is ramping up investments in AI-ready infrastructure after reporting double-digit growth in its latest financial year, underscoring how rising demand for compute and cloud capacity is reshaping India’s digital infrastructure landscape. The company plans to expand its capacity to 1 gigawatt (GW) over the next few years, backed by a recent $1 billion capital raise that values the business at about $3.1 billion.
Nxtra’s revenue from operations rose 17.1% year-on-year to ₹2,430 crore in the financial year 2026 (FY26), according to a research note by JM Financial cited in industry reports. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 24.8% to ₹980 crore, lifting the EBITDA margin to 40.3% from 37.8% a year earlier. Analysts attributed the performance to growing demand from enterprises and cloud service providers for colocation and AI-ready infrastructure.
The company is now targeting a steep scale-up of its data centre footprint to around 1GW, from a few hundred megawatts today, to meet what brokers describe as the next wave of AI and cloud-led demand. Expansion plans focus on key hubs such as Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi NCR and Hyderabad, which collectively anchor India’s data centre ecosystem. Brokerage firm CLSA said the capacity push positions Nxtra to benefit from accelerating investments in AI workloads and GPU clusters by hyperscalers and large enterprises.
To fund this build-out, Nxtra has secured $1 billion from a consortium of global investors and its parent. Alpha Wave Global is leading the round with a commitment of about $435 million, with Carlyle investing around $240 million and Anchorage Capital contributing $35 million, while Bharti Airtel is infusing roughly $290 million. The transaction, which values Nxtra at approximately $3.1 billion, will support the rollout of new facilities and technology upgrades across the company’s network.
Industry estimates cited in these reports suggest India’s data centre market could reach tens of billions of dollars in value over the next decade, with Nxtra targeting a meaningful share as it scales to 1GW.
