Meta Platforms is piloting a new AI-powered mobile app, StoryKit, that generates personalized children’s bedtime stories based on a handful of prompts from parents. The app is being tested as a limited regional trial and has appeared on Android via Google Play with more than 10,000 downloads, where it was last updated on July 20, 2026.
StoryKit is designed to create original stories rather than pulling from a static library, using generative AI to assemble narratives around custom characters, settings and moral lessons. Parents can upload or create a character, including by snapping a photo of a favorite toy or person, then describe the story world and choose a theme such as kindness, courage or empathy. The app then produces a complete bedtime story in under a minute, with illustrations, narration and background music.
Meta positions StoryKit as a multi-format storytelling tool, offering an illustrated storybook experience, an audiobook-style version and a read-aloud mode for parents who prefer to narrate themselves. A printable PDF option is also available so children can revisit or color the stories offline. The company says the app is aimed at simplifying the process of creating bespoke bedtime stories for families that may lack the time or confidence to craft narratives from scratch.
Safety and privacy controls are a central part of the product’s early positioning. Meta says StoryKit uses AI safety filters, includes no social features and is restricted to users aged 18 and older, even though the content is intended for children. According to the Google Play listing, the app does not show ads or offer in-app purchases, employs encryption for data in transit, and allows users to request deletion of their data.
A Meta spokesperson has described StoryKit as a pilot intended to gauge parental interest and collect feedback, with no public timeline for a broader rollout. The app is part of Meta’s wider push to extend its generative AI capabilities beyond its social platforms into consumer-facing creative tools. For now, StoryKit remains unavailable in major markets such as the United States, underscoring Meta’s cautious, test-led approach to AI products aimed at families and children
