The Indian Army has formalized a new phase of its technology modernisation by signing a memorandum of understanding with Zoho Corporation, aligning the force’s digital transformation with the JAI mission. The collaboration is designed to advance secure, sovereign digital systems tailored to the Army’s operational and administrative needs.
The MoU was executed between Lieutenant General Harsh Chhibber, DGIS, and Rajendran Dandapani, Director of Engineering at Zoho Corporation. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu attended the signing, underscoring the strategic weight both sides attach to the agreement.
Under the partnership, the Indian Army and Zoho Corporation will prioritise digital transformation initiatives, application-oriented research and development, and technology skill development. These efforts are intended to deepen the Army’s reliance on homegrown digital tools, reinforcing policy momentum towards indigenous platforms and reducing exposure to external technology dependencies.
The arrangement fits within the Army’s broader agenda to embed domestic technology providers into critical workflows, from data management to mission support. By working with Zoho Corporation, the force aims to accelerate deployment of secure, India-built software capabilities that can be tuned to its operational context and security requirements.
For Zoho Corporation, the agreement consolidates its growing footprint in public-sector collaborations. The company has been steadily expanding its partnerships with government and academic institutions, reflecting a strategy to support research-heavy and mission-critical environments.
Earlier, Zoho Corporation signed an MoU with Pondicherry University to promote collaborative research in material science and energy technologies. That engagement highlighted Zoho’s interest in long-term, research-focused alliances. The new Indian Army partnership extends this approach into defence-oriented digital infrastructure, situating the company as a recurring technology ally across multiple public-sector domains.
