India has eased rules to allow FDI in inventory‑based e‑commerce, but only for exports of domestically manufactured goods. The DPIIT press note removes the long‑standing bar when activity is confined to outbound shipments. Foreign‑funded e‑commerce firms can now own inventory and directly export Indian‑made products, subject to Foreign Trade Policy 2023 and FEMA. Domestic B2C inventory‑led sales remain prohibited, preserving safeguards for local retailers while boosting export logistics and global market access.
