Google has placed limits on Meta’s use of its Gemini AI models after the social media company sought more computing capacity than Google could provide, according to a Financial Times report published Sunday. The restrictions reportedly disrupted some of Meta’s internal AI projects and forced the company to adjust how it uses AI resources.
The report said Google told Meta around March that it could not meet the full amount of Gemini capacity Meta wanted to buy. The shortfall affected projects that relied on Google’s large language models, adding another sign of strain across the AI infrastructure market.
In response, Meta has reportedly encouraged employees to use AI tokens more efficiently. The company has also been pushing to build more of its own AI systems, a move that would reduce reliance on outside providers.
