Nvidia Corp is entering the personal computer market with a new Arm-based superchip designed to modernize Windows laptops for the AI era, sending shares of incumbent chipmakers lower while lifting its own stock. CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the RTX Spark at the Computex trade show in Taipei on Monday, marking the company’s first direct challenge to Intel Corp and Advanced Micro Devices Inc in the PC processor arena.
The RTX Spark superchip combines a 20-core Nvidia Grace CPU with a Blackwell-generation RTX GPU featuring 6,144 CUDA cores and fifth-generation Tensor Cores, connected via Nvidia’s NVLink chip-to-chip interconnect. The platform delivers 1 petaflop of AI computing performance and includes up to 128GB of LPDDR5X unified memory, enabling laptops to run large AI models securely and locally. The chip was developed over three years in collaboration with Microsoft Corp and Taiwan’s MediaTek Inc, and will run Windows on Arm.
Starting this fall, more than 30 laptop models and 10 desktop configurations powered by RTX Spark will launch from Microsoft, Dell Technologies Inc, HP Inc, Asus, Lenovo Group Ltd, and MSI. The first notebooks will be as thin as 14 millimeters and weigh approximately three pounds, with all-day battery life according to Nvidia. The design is manufactured using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co’s 3-nanometer process technology.
Nvidia shares rose approximately 6% on the announcement, adding nearly $300 billion in market capitalization, while rival stocks declined. Qualcomm Inc, whose Snapdragon X franchise targets the same Windows on Arm market, fell 6%. Intel dropped 4% and AMD declined 3% as investors reassessed the competitive landscape for PC processors.
The move transforms Nvidia from a GPU supplier for PC makers into a full-system competitor that previously partnered with these companies. Running AI agents securely and privately requires hardware capable of handling large models, Nvidia stated, positioning RTX Spark as infrastructure for personal AI assistants that do more than respond to user input.
Separately, Huang hosted a Korea Partner Night in Taipei on June 1, meeting executives from Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Hyundai Motor, LG Electronics, and Doosan to expand partnerships in robotics and physical AI. Huang identified robotics as a key investment area for South Korea and indicated Nvidia would consider hosting its GTC conference in Seoul, where he is scheduled to arrive on June 5.
