Amazon CEO Andy Jassy’s visit to India has coincided with a major expansion push for the company’s quick commerce offering, Amazon Now, as it looks to scale operations across more than 300 cities. The move marks a sharp increase from the company’s earlier target of 100 cities announced in April, underscoring Amazon’s growing focus on ultra-fast delivery in one of its key international markets.
Amazon Now, which promises deliveries within 10 minutes, currently serves over 50 million customers across 15 cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and Kochi. Launched in Bengaluru in June 2025, the service expanded to Delhi and Mumbai later that year and has since become Amazon India’s fastest-growing e-commerce business unit, with order volumes doubling every quarter, according to the company.
To support this rapid growth, Amazon has built more than 300 micro-fulfilment centres across its initial markets and is adding three to four new facilities daily. The expansion is backed by a ₹2,800 crore ($300 million) investment announced for 2026, aimed at strengthening logistics infrastructure and improving delivery efficiency. This funding is part of Amazon’s broader $35 billion commitment to India by 2030.
During his visit, Jassy toured a micro-fulfilment centre and met delivery associates, highlighting operational priorities and workforce engagement. The company also introduced “Sammaan,” a welfare initiative for delivery partners that includes enhanced health and life insurance, along with education scholarships for their children.
Amazon’s aggressive push into quick commerce places it in direct competition with established players such as Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart, as well as Flipkart Minutes. These companies have already shaped consumer expectations around rapid delivery in India’s urban and semi-urban markets.
Jassy also met with government officials, startup founders, and employees during the visit, reinforcing India’s strategic importance to Amazon’s global operations. Amazon Now is currently available in nine countries, with further international expansion planned.
