India’s IT Ministry has sent notices to Telegram and Signal over their username features, seeking details on safeguards against impersonation and misuse. The move follows a request to WhatsApp to pause its planned rollout amid concerns usernames could obscure phone numbers and enable fraud, phishing, and spoofing. IT Secretary S Krishnan warned usernames may facilitate cybercrime.
