India’s government said on Monday it has found no evidence that the recent cyberattack on Tata Electronics resulted in the loss of any critical information, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) told reporters through its IT Secretary.
Tata Electronics, a supplier to global technology firms including Apple and Tesla, confirmed on June 22 that it had detected a “cybersecurity incident” on some of its systems a few weeks earlier and activated its response protocols, saying its operations remained unaffected.
The incident drew attention after the ransomware group World Leaks posted more than 200,000 files described by security researchers as totalling over 630 gigabytes on a dark web leak site, with some files reportedly containing component specifications, manufacturing documents and internal communications linked to Apple and Tesla projects, according to Reuters and other outlets.
MeitY’s statement follows weeks of investigation and coordination with affected parties, with officials indicating that the entities involved are “satisfied that they have not lost anything” of critical value so far, according to media reporting.
Security researchers and reporting have said the leaked cache included supplier lists, technical documents and photos that raised concerns about supply-chain exposure for contract manufacturers handling sensitive work for major tech firms; Reuters and industry sources said the filings included materials linked to Apple’s upcoming device models.
Tata Electronics has said it restricted internal access to sensitive systems, informed clients and government authorities, and engaged external forensic support to investigate the incident, while Apple said it was conducting its own review, sources told Reuters.
The breach has renewed scrutiny of cybersecurity preparedness across India’s expanding electronics manufacturing sector, which has been attracting more sensitive contracts as global firms diversify supply chains away from China, industry observers noted in coverage of the incident.
