Anthropic said on May 28 that it is upgrading Claude Opus to version 4.8, describing the new model as an improvement over Opus 4.7 with gains across benchmarks and collaboration tasks. The company said the model is available immediately at the same price as its predecessor.
Alongside the model release, Anthropic introduced several product updates. Claude.ai users can now control how much effort the model puts into a task, while Claude Code adds a new “dynamic workflows” feature for large-scale problems. Anthropic also said fast mode for Opus 4.8, which runs at 2.5 times the speed, is now three times cheaper than it was for previous models.
The company said early testers found Opus 4.8 to be more reliable and sharper in judgment during agentic tasks. Anthropic also said the model is more likely to flag uncertainty and less likely to make unsupported claims, adding that its evaluations show Opus 4.8 is around four times less likely than its predecessor to let flaws in code go unremarked.
Anthropic said dynamic workflows is available in research preview and can run hundreds of parallel subagents in a single session. The company said the feature is available in Claude Code for Enterprise, Team and Max plans, and can support codebase-scale migrations across hundreds of thousands of lines of code.
For developers, Anthropic said the Messages API now accepts system entries inside the messages array, allowing instructions to be updated mid-task without breaking the prompt cache or routing the update through a user turn. Pricing for regular usage remains $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, while fast mode is priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.
