Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with top executives and experts from India’s artificial intelligence (AI) sector on Thursday to discuss strategies for strengthening the country’s AI ecosystem. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi, comes ahead of the IndiaAI Impact Summit scheduled for February, aimed at accelerating India’s national AI mission.
During the interaction, CEOs from leading firms including Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech, Zoho Corporation, LTI Mindtree, Jio Platforms, AdaniConnex, Nxtra Data, and Netweb Technologies expressed strong support for the government’s efforts toward achieving self-sufficiency in AI. They acknowledged India’s growing role as a global leader in advanced technology, backed by policy initiatives and digital infrastructure.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of developing an AI ecosystem that is transparent, impartial, and secure. Stressing the ethical use of AI, he highlighted the need to balance innovation with responsibility, ensuring data security and equitable access to technology. Modi also emphasized AI skilling and talent development as key to scaling India’s capabilities.
Citing India’s success with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Modi said that the country’s proven digital model could similarly guide AI innovation. He urged the use of indigenous technology across critical sectors, adding that India’s scale, diversity, and democratic values position it uniquely to inspire global trust in digital transformation.
Union IT Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Jitin Prasada also joined the session, alongside experts from IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, and IIT Bombay.
