NPCI is expanding its use of AI across the UPI ecosystem, focusing on onboarding, fraud detection, customer support and voice-based, multilingual payments. CEO Dilip Asbe said AI will drive UPI’s next growth phase, while NPCI’s FiMI language model already powers the UPI Help Assistant. The organisation is also partnering with Nvidia to build a sovereign AI model for India’s digital payments infrastructure.
