India’s Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises will host the first BRICS MSME Forum and the third SME Working Group Meeting in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on 19 June 2026, under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The meetings aim to deepen cooperation among BRICS members and partner countries on strengthening micro, small and medium enterprise ecosystems and advancing sustainable, inclusive growth.
The Forum will convene policymakers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders from BRICS member and partner countries, including Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and India. Participants are expected to deliberate on ways to bolster global MSME ecosystems, foster sustainability and enhance international cooperation.
The ministry notes that India’s MSME sector comprises over 8.6 crore enterprises and has become a key pillar of national economic growth. According to the release, the sector contributes more than 31.1 per cent to GDP, accounts for 35.4 per cent of manufacturing output and generates over 48.58 per cent of India’s exports, while creating large-scale employment opportunities. The government positions MSMEs as reflecting the diversity of the economy, spanning traditional artisans, rural enterprises, advanced manufacturing and technology-driven businesses.
The day-long programme in Agra will open with an exhibition showcasing MSME capabilities, followed by the third SME Working Group meeting themed “Building MSME Ecosystem – Sustainable Roots to Global Routes.” Alongside official deliberations, private sector stakeholders and industry associations from BRICS members will discuss access to finance for MSMEs, technology access and the growth of sustainability-oriented enterprises.
Senior government officials and delegates from BRICS nations will share best practices, policy experiences and case studies focused on building resilient and future-ready MSME ecosystems. The ministry expects the Forum to strengthen cooperation among BRICS countries, support MSME growth and global competitiveness, and create opportunities to exchange knowledge, identify emerging opportunities and build partnerships. The initiative is framed as reflecting a collective BRICS commitment to empowering MSMEs as drivers of economic resilience, innovation and sustainable growth in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
