Microsoft on Monday launched MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, its first artificial intelligence model built specifically for cybersecurity, alongside Project Perception, a new AI-powered security platform that uses multiple AI agents to help organisations detect, monitor and respond to cyber threats across enterprise environments. The launch marks Microsoft’s biggest push yet into AI-powered cybersecurity products.
MAI-Cyber-1-Flash is based on Microsoft’s MAI-Thinking-1 reasoning model, which was introduced at the Build 2026 conference. The model has been integrated into MDASH, Microsoft’s multi-agent vulnerability identification and remediation system. According to Microsoft, it is designed to handle around 90% of security tasks, while more advanced models such as GPT-5.4 are used only for more complex problems, helping reduce computing costs.
Microsoft said the MDASH system powered by MAI-Cyber-1-Flash achieved a 96% score on the CyberGym benchmark, which evaluates AI systems using 1,507 real-world vulnerabilities. The company said the score is 12 points higher than Anthropic’s Mythos and delivers a 50% reduction in cost compared with its previous best configuration.
In the announcement, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman and Hayete Gallot described the model as “built ground up to find the most challenging vulnerabilities in complex code bases.” Microsoft added that the model was developed using security-first calibration, tested by its internal AI Red Team through adversarial exercises, and independently assessed by a third party.
Microsoft also introduced Project Perception, an agentic security platform that coordinates multiple AI agents across security workflows. The platform builds on MDASH’s vulnerability discovery capabilities and extends them to continuous monitoring, patch management and threat vector closure.
The company said Project Perception will initially be available through Microsoft Defender and will gradually expand to support additional enterprise security workflows.
